A Wonderful CD!!!!

D’Arcy’s debut CD presents a live performance of state-of-the-art cabaret.  She is an amazing storyteller and weaves her patter brilliantly with her musical material.  She offers very personal approaches to a wide variety of material ranging from standard standards like Don’t Fence Me In, cabaret standards Dance* , folk/country like Mary Chapin Carpenter’s What if We Went to Italy and much more. I always think that the mark of a good cabaret show is the feeling that you’ve met someone interesting at a dinner party — and this CD makes me look forward to the next party I’m invited to with D’Arcy.  (More on that below.)

Her music director, the great Rick Jensen, does an amazing job of filtering the vastly different material so that it fits D’Arcy’s gifts; there is obvious variety, but it doesn’t seem in the least schizophrenic.  The live album also lets you appreciate a true master of underscoring and transitions at work.

Here’s the track list:

  • I Happen To Like New York
  • I’ve Still Got My Health
  • People That You Never Get To Love
  • Nice And Easy
  • All Dressed Up,Don’t Get Around Much Anymore
  • What If We Went To Italy
  • Planes
  • Something Cool
  • Sensible Shoes
  • Ask Me Again
  • Just To Look At Him
  • Dance
  • Don’t Fence Me In
  • Don’t Fence Me In Finale

Some people don’t like “live” albums.  And for those wanting to get a song uninterrupted by patter there could be occasional frustration.  If you don’t fall into those categories, go to D’Arcy’s Web site and get the CD .

Also, those of you in New York can see D’Arcy’s new show “I Believe in Love” at Don’t Tell Mama running through October 3rd.

*She doesn’t exploit the fact in her show, but D’Arcy’s husband is wheelchair bound, which I think just adds bushels when you hear the song.
